On a busy Friday night in Uptown Columbus, 18-year-old Kalielah Davis was fatally shot while sitting in a car with friends. The incident occurred on September 5, 2025, near 11th and Bay Avenue, a typically vibrant area. Davis was struck in the head by a bullet and was rushed to Piedmont Midtown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.
Described as a silly, bubbly, loving, and bright individual, Davis was a recent graduate of Jordan Vocational High School where she
was a member of the JROTC. On the night of her death, she and her friends had parked near the Kadie the Cow statue on Bay Avenue. Authorities have stated that the shooting was an unprovoked attack and that Davis and her friends were not engaged in any wrongdoing.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort involving the Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, Fugitive Unit, and Real Time Crime Center, as well as the Phenix City Police Department. Surveillance footage from surrounding businesses played a crucial role in identifying a group of five individuals near the scene of the crime. This evidence led to the identification of a suspect vehicle and ultimately to the apprehension of the individuals believed to be responsible.
Five suspects were taken into custody in connection with the murder. The adult suspects were identified as 21-year-old Kacin Grant and 18-year-old Lamarcus Williams. Three juveniles, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old identified as Lafabien Anderson, were also arrested. All five face charges of murder, five counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. One of the suspects, Kacin Grant, was awaiting extradition from Alabama. In response to the tragic event, city officials implemented restrictions on Bay Avenue, closing the street to traffic at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and increasing police presence in the area.
