On an August morning in 2023, the life of Gisele Marina Razo Lara, a 21-year-old White/Caucasian senior biology major at Columbus State University, was tragically cut short. She was fatally shot in a campus parking lot in Columbus, Georgia, in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. The man responsible for her death was her 25-year-old classmate, Nathaniel Janik, who took his own life after killing her.
