In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the sound of gunshots echoed through the 1800 block of E Street in Southeast, Washington, D.C. Responding to the reports at approximately 2:05 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers discovered a man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The man, identified as 50-year-old Lawrence Meekins of Northwest, D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services after all lifesaving efforts failed.
