In the early morning hours of July 5, 2012, the life of 35-year-old Julius Barnett Ellington, a Black male from Northwest D.C., was tragically cut short. At approximately 2:20 a.m., in the 600 block of Morton Street, NW, gunshots rang out, leaving Mr. Ellington with fatal injuries. Another adult male was also struck by gunfire during the incident but survived.
Emergency services responded to the scene, and Mr. Ellington was rushed to a local hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the shooting, seeking assistance from the public to piece together the events of that night.
Years have passed since Julius Ellington's death, and the case has grown cold. Authorities have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his murder. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains open as law enforcement continues to seek answers and justice for the Ellington family.
