In the late hours of a Saturday, the Eckington neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On July 5, 2025, just after 11:00 p.m., 23-year-old Zarie Williams, a resident of Northwest, D.C., was fatally shot in the 100 block of T Street, Northeast. When officers from the Fifth District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Ms. Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that night did not end with Ms. Williams's death. A short time after the shooting, an adult male arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Detectives were able to connect him to the same incident on T Street that claimed Zarie Williams's life. He was treated for his injuries. The investigation into this double shooting and homicide remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to search for a motive and the individual or individuals responsible for this act of violence.
As of now, no arrests have been made in the case of Zarie Williams's murder, and police have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects. The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and has offered a substantial reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death. The investigation continues as her community awaits answers and justice.
