In the summer of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Talaya Campbell was tragically cut short in a residence located on the 500 block of Irving Street, Northwest in Washington, D.C. On the afternoon of Friday, August 13th, police were called to the scene following a report of a shooting. Inside, they discovered Ms. Campbell suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services responded but found that she showed no signs of life and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the young woman's death quickly pointed to a domestic dispute. Detectives identified 21-year-old Jereal Booker of Northwest, D.C. as the suspect in the fatal shooting. It was revealed that Booker and Campbell were in a relationship. A warrant for Booker's arrest was issued, charging him with second-degree murder while armed.
Less than two days after the shooting, on Sunday, August 15, 2021, Jereal Booker was located and taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police Department. He was formally charged in connection with the death of Talaya Campbell. The swift arrest brought a suspect before the court to answer for the violent end to a young life.
