On a summer morning in Tucson, Arizona, the life of 32-year-old Andrew Jacob Valencia was cut short by gunfire. The fatal encounter unfolded on July 27, 2025, just after 9:00 a.m. in the courtyard of the Grand Luxe Hotel on West Grant Road. Officers arrived at the scene to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Andrew Valencia was pronounced deceased at the location, while the second man, a 33-year-old, was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators pieced together the events leading to the shooting through witness interviews and surveillance footage. It was determined that Valencia had been involved in a confrontation with a group of people, which included two men on a dirt bike. The dispute was reportedly connected to a previous disagreement. During the altercation, Valencia drew a firearm and shot the 33-year-old man who was part of the group confronting him.
Immediately following this, one of the men on the dirt bike returned fire, striking and killing Andrew Valencia. The two individuals on the dirt bike fled the scene. Through their investigation, homicide detectives were able to identify both men. The suspected shooter was identified as 35-year-old Angel Ray Figueroa-Alicea. Following interviews with both individuals from the dirt bike, Figueroa-Alicea was arrested and booked into the Pima County Jail. He was initially charged with being a Prohibited Possessor, with the possibility of homicide charges to be presented to the Pima County Attorney's Office as the investigation continued.
