On August 13, 2025, the afternoon in Mobile, Alabama fractured into sirens and hurried footsteps when Eric Brown was shot on West McVay Drive. He was identified in later reporting as a 36-year-old Black man.
Police described the shooting as erupting from a verbal confrontation that turned lethal within moments. Neighbors told reporters they heard what sounded like five or six shots, and officers arriving at the scene found Brown dead, lying in an overgrown yard as investigators tried to
piece together what had just happened and why. In those first minutes, authorities said they did not yet have a clear motive or even basic suspect information to share publicly, only a rapidly expanding scene and a growing number of witnesses to interview.
While detectives were still working the homicide, another burst of violence unfolded nearby. At about 4:21 p.m., officers were notified of a second shooting a short distance away in the 1400 block of Boudousquie Street, where a man with gunshot wounds was found on the front porch of a home and rushed to a local hospital. Investigators identified that injured man as Princeton Warren and said they determined he was responsible for Brown’s shooting on West McVay Drive.
The suspected shooter never faced an arrest. Police said Warren, while being treated at University Hospital, suffered a cardiac event and died under medical care, leaving investigators with a case where the named suspect was no longer alive to question or charge. Authorities characterized the matter as an active investigation and said no further information would be released at that time, with key questions—what led to the confrontation, how the second shooting began, and who fired in that later incident—hanging over the neighborhood long after the crime-scene tape came down.
