Angel Morales, a 31-year-old man, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on February 9, 2025, in Laredo, Texas. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at 202 E. Saunders St., marking the second homicide of the year in the city. Authorities responded to the scene and pronounced Morales dead upon arrival.
The Laredo Police Department quickly identified a suspect in the case. Alberto Cantu, a 28-year-old man, was located and taken into custody for questioning.
Investigators recovered several pieces of evidence, including the firearm allegedly used in the killing. Following the investigation, Cantu was charged with first-degree murder and booked into Webb County Jail. Authorities are still working to determine the motive behind the crime.
Morales' death adds to the growing concerns about violent crime in Laredo. This homicide follows another incident on January 14, 2025, when a murder-suicide was reported in the 1800 block of Barrios Street. With two homicides already recorded in the early months of the year, the city has reached one-third of its total homicide count from 2024. The investigation into Morales' death remains ongoing as authorities seek further details surrounding the case.
