Julio Cesar Martinez Garza, a 22-year-old Hispanic male from Laredo, Texas, tragically lost his life on February 22, 2016. His death was the result of a violent incident that occurred during a drug deal gone wrong. According to reports, Garza-Martinez was in a minivan negotiating a drug deal when several vehicles surrounded the vehicle and opened fire.
He was shot multiple times in the back and later succumbed to his injuries at Laredo Medical Center.
The investigation into Garza-Martinez's death led to multiple arrests and legal proceedings. Erik Ibarra, along with five other men, was indicted on charges of murder, engaging in organized criminal activity, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Ibarra eventually pleaded guilty to engaging in organized criminal activity and received a 10-year prison sentence as part of a plea agreement. The murder and aggravated assault charges against him were dismissed.
Additionally, two other men, Jesus Ruben Rodriguez and Albert Dominguez, were convicted of murder, aggravated assault, and engaging in organized criminal activity in connection with the shooting. The jury found them guilty after deliberating for about four hours. Both Rodriguez and Dominguez received significant prison sentences for their roles in the incident.
