In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 7, 2024, the life of 30-year-old Brandon A. Holland was tragically cut short in Callaway, Virginia. Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Moe Lane around 4:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Holland deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
Brandon Antonie Holland, born on December 22, 1993, in Rocky Mount, Virginia, was a man known for his infectious smile.
He was a husband to his wife, Monica, for seven years and a father figure to her children. He found joy in listening to music, playing basketball and video games with his family, and traveling. His unexpected death left a void in the lives of his many family members and friends who cherished him.
The investigation into Holland's death quickly led to arrests. The day after the shooting, Antonio Maurice Payne, a 37-year-old from Lebanon, Virginia, was taken into custody in Montgomery County. He was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of a second individual, 18-year-old Jamarion Nazier Dunnings, on December 18, 2024. Dunnings faced charges of non-capital second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
In the following months, a third suspect was apprehended. On February 3, 2025, 58-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Overstreet of Callaway was arrested. A grand jury indicted him on multiple felony charges, including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, non-capital first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and maliciously discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling. All three men were held without bond as the investigation into the murder of Brandon Holland remained ongoing.
