In the afternoon hours of February 20, 2025, a confrontation on Laconia Avenue NE in Roanoke, Virginia, tragically ended the life of 22-year-old Donovan Leander St. Juste. A Black/African American male, St. Juste was fatally shot during an altercation that erupted at approximately 2:41 p.m.
Reports from preliminary investigations indicate that St. Juste had driven up to a parked vehicle occupied by another man and a teenager. An argument ensued between St. Juste and the other man.
The verbal dispute escalated violently when both men, who were reportedly armed, exchanged gunfire. St. Juste sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.
The man and the teenager involved in the incident remained at the location and were subsequently detained by law enforcement for questioning. Following their interviews, both individuals were released. As of the latest reports, no formal arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
The Roanoke Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances that led to St. Juste's death. The case is slated to be presented to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, which will then determine if the matter will be brought before a grand jury for further action. Authorities are still seeking any additional information from the public that could shed more light on the fatal encounter.
