In the autumn of 1945, a dedicated police sergeant's life was irrevocably altered by a violent encounter in Roanoke, Virginia. Sergeant Joseph Jennings, a 74-year-old Caucasian male, was investigating the theft of an electric drill on the evening of Wednesday, September 26. His inquiry led him to a garage located at Sixth Street and Centre Avenue Northwest, where he confronted a suspect.
