On a summer evening in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of 46-year-old Black / African American male Leon Jones was tragically cut short. On June 3, 2023, Roanoke Police responded to a call in the 1600 block of Hanover Avenue NW. Upon arrival, they discovered a man, later identified as Jones, inside a residence with what appeared to be a critical gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and Jones was quickly transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for
treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Roanoke Police Department subsequently launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting.
