In the early morning hours of September 12, 2020, a violent encounter outside a bar on Bridge Street in Roanoke, Virginia, claimed the life of 35-year-old Derrick Lamar 'Bruce' Bostick. A graduate of Butler High School in Augusta, Georgia, and a former student at Virginia Western Community College, Derrick was known as a devoted father, son, and reliable friend who enjoyed spending quality time with his daughter.
That Saturday, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a call and
discovered Mr. Bostick with multiple gunshot wounds. Another woman at the scene had also been struck by gunfire. Both were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Sadly, Derrick Bostick succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to 51-year-old Ahmad Mubdi. He was taken into custody overnight without incident and was initially charged with malicious wounding. Following Mr. Bostick's death, the case was investigated as a homicide.
Ahmad Mubdi was later found guilty on all charges related to the shooting, which included first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His sentencing took place in February 2022.
