Terrance Eugene Butler, a 38-year-old Black man, was with a small group near the 700 block of Adams Avenue, just off Washington Avenue and H Street, on the night of November 20, 2015. Around 8:40 p.m., a verbal dispute escalated into a fight between Butler and another man. Officers and medics arrived to find Butler on the ground; he was taken to University Medical Center, where he died of a stab wound to the chest. The Clark County coroner identified him soon after, noting he was a North Las Vegas resident. His death became part of a grim tally for that year's homicide investigations in Las Vegas.
Detectives pieced together that the confrontation unfolded in the street and that the others present ran off on foot after the stabbing. Investigators circulated a limited description of the assailant: a light-skinned Black man wearing dark pants and a white T-shirt who fled with the group. No clear motive was established in the immediate aftermath, and authorities appealed for tips from the public to move the case forward.
In the days following the killing, police did not announce any arrests. Reports emphasized the open nature of the investigation and repeated the call for information, underscoring that the suspect or suspects had not been located or identified beyond the initial description.
