In the quiet of a central Toledo neighborhood on a Saturday evening, the life of Willis Johnson, a 34-year-old man, came to a violent and tragic end. On January 10, 2026, police were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Rockingham Street following a report of a person shot. Inside the residence, they discovered Mr. Johnson, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was quickly cordoned off as detectives began their investigation, searching the home and a vehicle parked outside for any clues to what had transpired.
Two days later, on January 12, the Lucas County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy which revealed the full extent of the violence. Willis Johnson had been shot four times, with two wounds to his head, one to his neck, and another to his back. The cause of his death was officially determined to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. This confirmation officially marked his death as the first homicide in Toledo for the year.
