The woman had pulled into the lot and rushed inside for help, and responding officers discovered Bell with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The Clark County coroner ruled the death a homicide and released his full name and age later that week.
In the hours that followed, detectives tried to retrace the night. According to police, Bell and the woman had been out drinking at several places around town; at some point she realized he’d been shot and drove to a business seeking assistance. Investigators were initially unable to determine exactly where the shooting occurred, only that Bell died in the back of the car that morning outside the gas station.
