In the early hours of April 1, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Curtis Smith, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident began at approximately 2:20 a.m. when Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near Tamara Costa Court and Sunrise Mountain Drive. At the scene, they discovered evidence of gunfire, but no victims or suspects were present.
A short time later, a black SUV arrived at Centennial
Hospital, dropping off Smith, who was suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the neck. He was subsequently transferred to University Medical Center for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Smith succumbed to his injuries and passed away on April 2, 2023.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of an exchange of gunfire between individuals in two separate vehicles. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's homicide detectives are actively investigating the case. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting.
Authorities have reached out to the public for assistance, specifically seeking information about a stolen black 2018 Kia with Nevada license plate LVV0Y8, which is believed to be connected to the incident. Law enforcement has released surveillance footage of this vehicle in the hopes that someone will recognize it and come forward with information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
