Edward Jae Song Lee, an 18-year-old Korean-American, tragically lost his life on April 30, 1992, during the Los Angeles riots. The riots erupted following the acquittal of four LAPD officers involved in the beating of Rodney King, leading to widespread violence and chaos throughout the city. Edward, who lived in the Wilshire District of Los Angeles, ventured out with friends to protect their Koreatown neighborhood, which had been largely abandoned by law enforcement during the unrest.
