On August 8, 2024, 31-year-old Darin Algee Jr. was fatally shot while driving on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. as Algee was traveling southbound near Flamingo Road with his wife, Lasha Bowie, and their 5-year-old son. An unknown assailant fired multiple shots at their vehicle, causing Algee to lose control and crash into the center median.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Algee, originally from Dallas, Texas, had recently relocated to Las Vegas with his family earlier in the year to seek better opportunities and be closer to relatives. He was a devoted husband and father of five children, three of whom have autism. Family members described him as a loving, caring, and hardworking individual who prioritized his family's well-being.
Following the tragedy, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation but initially had no leads on the suspects or their vehicle. Two months later, on October 20, 2024, police arrested 18-year-old Damarion Bell and 23-year-old Jasahn Lovette in connection with the shooting. Both were charged with open murder with a deadly weapon and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
Algee's death left his family devastated and seeking justice. A GoFundMe campaign was established to support his widow and children during this challenging time. The family expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a man who was dedicated to providing for and protecting his loved ones.
Funeral services for Algee were held in Dallas, Texas, at the Golden Gate Funeral Home. A viewing took place on September 6, 2024, followed by a funeral service on September 7. Friends and family gathered to honor his memory and celebrate his life, remembering him for his kindness and warmth.
