In the early morning hours of September 8, 2021, the life of Cordell Thrasher, a 27-year-old Black/African American male, was cut short in a Las Vegas motel room. The incident unfolded at the Howard Johnson Inn on East Tropicana Avenue, near the bustling Las Vegas Strip. Police were dispatched to the location at approximately 3:05 a.m. following reports of gunshots and a woman's screams for help emanating from the back parking lot.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a woman in her
20s suffering from a gunshot wound. She was able to direct the authorities to a hotel room on the premises. Inside, they found Cordell Thrasher, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured woman was transported to University Medical Center with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening.
Investigators believe that an altercation occurred within the confines of the motel room, which ultimately led to the exchange of gunfire that struck both Thrasher and the woman. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated they were confident that there were no outstanding suspects in the case. While no arrests were made in connection with Thrasher's death, authorities indicated that they were not actively searching for any other individuals.
