Josselin Dallana Corea Escalante, a 16-year-old girl of Guatemalan descent, tragically had her life cut short on January 22, 2025, in a shooting that unfolded within the walls of Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee. A sophomore who was known for her kind and loving nature, Josselin played soccer and dreamed of one day becoming a doctor. Having moved to the United States from Guatemala at the age of nine with her mother and younger brother, she was described by her family as a calm, well-behaved student who excelled in her studies and deeply loved her family.
The ordinary school day turned horrific when a 17-year-old fellow student, identified as Solomon Henderson, opened fire in the school cafeteria. Henderson fired multiple rounds, striking and fatally wounding Josselin. Another student was also injured in the attack but was expected to survive. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Henderson took his own life.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Authorities have indicated they are examining 'concerning on-line writings and social media posts' connected to Henderson in an effort to understand what led to the tragic events. At the time of the incident, police had not established any connection between Henderson and the two students he shot. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances that led to the devastating loss of a young life filled with promise.
