In the early hours of March 24, 2025, the life of 16-year-old Ayden Amere Russo was tragically cut short in Knoxville, Tennessee. The male teenager was discovered in the backyard of a residence on Louise Avenue, having sustained at least one gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Ayden was remembered by his family as a bright soul who could light up any room and as a talented athlete who enjoyed playing both basketball and football.
The investigation into Ayden’s death, led by the Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit, quickly began to unfold. Investigators found numerous shell casings in the backyard where his body was discovered. In the weeks that followed, the investigation led to the identification of suspects.
On April 14, 2025, authorities announced the arrests of Jaylyn Hudson and Jayden Conwell, charging them both with first-degree murder in connection with Ayden’s death. According to an arrest report, Conwell informed detectives that he and two others had arranged to purchase something from Ayden and had parked in an alley behind his house. Conwell stated that Hudson then exited the vehicle with an 'AR pistol' before gunfire erupted. It was also revealed that Hudson had contacted Ayden via Snapchat just before the fatal encounter. Ayden was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Later, in October 2025, a grand jury returned felony murder indictments against Hudson, Conwell, and a third individual, Ladamion Julian, in connection with the killing.
