In the early morning hours of July 30, 2017, a dispute in East Knoxville, Tennessee, tragically cut short the life of 23-year-old Curtis Deyquan King. The young man was found deceased at the corner of Fern Street and Lilac Avenue, having sustained at least one fatal gunshot wound. The Knoxville Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, seeking to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
The investigation quickly led authorities to identify two individuals
as persons of interest. Kelsi Fessler, a 22-year-old woman, was located and brought in for questioning. After providing her statement to the police, she was released, and no charges were filed against her in connection with the incident. The focus of the investigation then turned to the second person of interest, 27-year-old Nicholas Crenshaw Baker.
A few days later, on August 5, 2017, Nicholas Crenshaw Baker voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Safety Building. Following his surrender, he was arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of Curtis Deyquan King. Baker was subsequently booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. The case against him proceeded through the justice system, and in February 2018, a grand jury indicted him on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
