In the early evening of March 5, 2025, Dennis C. Noe, a 60-year-old male, was driving his Toyota Tundra westbound on Interstate 640 in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was around 5:40 p.m. when a sudden, tragic event unfolded inside the vehicle that would cut his life short. A retired Captain from the City of Knoxville Fire Department, Noe was a man who had dedicated his life to public service and was a beloved figure in his community.
Inside the truck with Noe were other individuals, including
two passengers seated in the back. As they traveled down the interstate near Millertown Pike, the two backseat passengers were handling a firearm. In a devastating turn of events, the gun unintentionally discharged, and the single bullet struck Noe. The vehicle came to a stop on the right shoulder of the interstate. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Noe critically injured with a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Dennis Noe succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. The Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the incident, which they have described as a suspected accidental shooting. All individuals who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident were detained at the scene for questioning. Following a consultation with the Knox County District Attorney's Office, no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
