On November 24, 2022, Martel Thomas, a 27-year-old man who recently moved to Knoxville, Tennessee from Detroit, Michigan, was found shot and killed inside a car on McConnell Street in East Knoxville. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before discovering Thomas dead inside the vehicle.
