On the evening of February 20, 2025, 13-year-old Izreal Bishop, an African American boy, was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds on Dutch Colony Drive in Cincinnati's Winton Hills neighborhood. Emergency responders transported him to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Izreal, affectionately known as "Bunz," was a student at Hughes STEM High School.
He was remembered by mentors and community members as a bright and respectful child with a mature demeanor. Rodney Christian, a mentor and community leader, described him as a natural leader and an "old soul" who was eager to bring peace and help to his community.
Despite the community's mourning and calls for justice, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Izreal's death. The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to contact them at 513-352-3542.
Izreal Bishop's funeral services were held on March 8, 2025, at the House of Hope in Cincinnati. He is survived by his parents, Rachel Tobin and Isaac Bishop, and a community that deeply feels the loss of a young life full of promise.
