On what should have been a joyous celebration of his 18th birthday, Darmani Fabian Balbuena Mesquin, a young Black man, was tragically killed. The incident occurred on August 25, 2024, outside of his home on Rhodes Street in Providence, Rhode Island, during a gathering to mark this milestone. He was found with a single gunshot wound to his chest and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death marked the city's sixth homicide of the year.
