On the evening of February 26, 2023, a young Hispanic man's life was cut short in a burst of gunfire on Charles Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Delvy Dominguez, a 24-year-old male resident of the city, was shot and killed in what became the third homicide in Providence that year. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:30 p.m. in a busy area, near a gas station and a car wash.
According to police reports, the shooting appeared to be a targeted event.
A vehicle pulled up alongside the car Delvy Dominguez was in, and several shots were fired from what was believed to be a handgun, possibly a nine-millimeter. Dominguez was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to his injuries. Another individual was in the vehicle with him at the time of the shooting, though their identity and condition were not widely reported. The car he was in was hit multiple times during the attack.
In the immediate aftermath, Providence police cordoned off the area to investigate, with nearly a dozen evidence markers visible on the ground.
