Jordan Baxter, 38, a Black/African American male from Philadelphia, was found dead on the morning of March 19, 2025, outside a home on the 800 block of Bells Mill Road in Northwest Philadelphia's Roxborough/Upper Roxborough area. Police were called shortly before 7 a.m. for a report of a person screaming, and when officers arrived they found Baxter unresponsive on a plastic sheet between two parked cars. Medics pronounced him dead at 7:07 a.m.
A gun was found resting on his chest, and police later said he had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Investigators also found blood on a mattress inside the home, leading to reports that authorities believed he may have been shot inside and then moved outside.
Baxter's death stunned those who knew him. He was described by relatives as loved, dependable, and full of life, and family members gathered days later at Murphy Recreation Center in the Andorra section of Philadelphia to remember him. Loved ones said the recreation center was a place where he had once been happy, playing and spending time with friends. He was also remembered as a father of three and a longtime SEPTA Regional Rail engineer. SEPTA said he had worked for the agency for 14 years and described him as a veteran engineer, offering condolences to his loved ones after his killing.
The investigation quickly turned toward Baxter's wife, Danielle Baxter. Police arrested her on March 20, 2025, the day after Jordan was found. Authorities identified her as the suspect and charged her with murder and related offenses. Reported charges included murder, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. She was held at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center after bail was denied, and an April 7, 2025 preliminary hearing was reported.
Neighbors expressed disbelief after the arrest, with some describing the family as friendly and saying they had not noticed obvious signs of trouble. One report said a neighbor believed the couple had been separated and that Jordan was not living at the Bells Mill Road home at the time.
