On November 14, 2016, Brandon Baylor, a 28-year-old male, was shot and killed in North Philadelphia. The shooting occurred shortly before 4:15 p.m. on the 1900 block of North 25th Street, inside the Johnson Homes public housing development where his grandmother resided. Baylor was shot once in the chest and once in the groin. He was transported to Temple Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At the time of his death, Baylor was a father of two and had a passion for real estate, owning
one rental property and working towards acquiring more. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast. His mother, Mykia Capers, described him as a funny and loving family man.
Despite the presence of eyewitnesses and video footage that reportedly shows two men, one believed to be the driver and the other the shooter, no arrests have been made in the case. A clear motive for the shooting has not been established, though it was noted that Baylor had prior arrests for drug-related offenses. In the years following her son's death, Capers has been a vocal advocate for justice, pressing law enforcement for answers and working to keep his case in the public eye. A reward of $30,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Brandon Baylor's murder. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
