In the evening hours of a Saturday in Oklahoma City, tragedy struck a neighborhood on the upper Eastside, forever altering the lives of a local family. On November 16, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of NE Katherine Place following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered 14-year-old Jordan Gulley, a Black male, lying unresponsive in the street, having sustained gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported the young man to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Jordan was a freshman at Millwood High School, where he had been a part of the school community since the age of 10. His family remembers him as a caring, loving, and charismatic individual who was a servant to his community. He had a passion for basketball and football and was known for his positive impact on those around him, both young and old. His mother expressed immense pride in the amazing young man he was in his short time. The Millwood Public Schools community shared in the family's grief, stating that Jordan left an indelible mark on his friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
The investigation into Jordan's death is ongoing, and as of the days immediately following the incident, no arrests had been made. The Oklahoma City Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact the Homicide Tip Line. His death marked the 73rd homicide in Oklahoma City for the year 2024. The loss of Jordan was the second time in a matter of months that the Millwood school community had been struck by the tragedy of gun violence.
