In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City, a dispute between two men escalated into a fatal shooting. Edwin Jelinek, a 44-year-old White male, was shot outside a residence in the 2500 block of SW 45th Street on June 24, 2025. Police were dispatched to the scene around 3:15 p.m. where they discovered Jelinek suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident, which authorities have classified as the city's 35th homicide of the year, is believed to have stemmed from an argument between Jelinek and the alleged shooter. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Patrick Herrera, fled the scene in a burgundy vehicle immediately after the shooting. Law enforcement officers spotted the vehicle a short time later and initiated a pursuit. The chase was described as a slow-speed pursuit, and it concluded when Herrera stopped at a residence and surrendered to the authorities without further incident.
Following his surrender, Patrick Herrera was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Oklahoma County jail. He has been formally charged with murder in connection with the death of Edwin Jelinek. The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the deadly confrontation is ongoing.
