In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a dispute in the hallway of the Studio Star Motel escalated into a fatal encounter for Samuel Mack. The 52-year-old man was found by Tulsa Police officers with multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he died a short time later.
The events leading to the shooting reportedly began with a confrontation between a woman and another individual at the motel.
This initial altercation drew in others, culminating in a physical assault on a man who would become the suspect in Mack's death. According to police, two men who were with the woman involved in the initial disturbance confronted and began assaulting the man. It was during this assault that the man, identified as Solomon McCall, allegedly drew a firearm.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Through witness interviews and surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify and track down McCall. He was arrested the following afternoon. During questioning, McCall claimed that he acted in self-defense during the altercation. He was initially arrested for possession of a firearm after the conviction of a felony. The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office will be responsible for determining if additional charges, including those directly related to Mack's death, will be filed.
Samuel Mack, known affectionately to some as 'Dinky,' was remembered as a man with a vibrant spirit who deeply loved his family and friends. A graduate of Thomas Edison Preparatory School, he was a former high school wrestling state champion and also lettered in football. He went on to work as a welder for many years. His family and friends recall his sense of humor and his love for singing and dancing, describing him as the life of the party. He was a married father and a doting grandfather.
