In the early morning hours of January 5, 2025, a burst of violence outside a bar in the 500 block of Ames Boulevard in Marrero, Louisiana, set in motion a tragedy that would ultimately claim the life of an innocent bystander. Curtis Lawrence, a 36-year-old African American male from New Orleans, was at the wrong place at the wrong time when two unidentified gunmen opened fire.
Their intended target, an unknown individual, escaped unscathed, but the bullets found their way to Lawrence and a woman who was also present at the scene.
While the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, Lawrence was critically wounded in the shooting. He was rushed to a medical facility where he would spend nearly two months fighting for his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Curtis Lawrence succumbed to his injuries on February 28, 2025. His death transformed the case from an assault into a homicide investigation, leaving a community to mourn a senseless loss.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the death of Curtis Lawrence and is searching for the two unidentified suspects responsible for the shooting.
