In the days following Christmas, a pall of sorrow descended upon a Marrero community. Drake Anthony Coleman, a 28-year-old African American man known affectionately as 'Drizzy,' was fatally shot inside a home on December 26, 2019. A graduate of Metro Christian Academy, he was a carpenter and landscaper, but his most cherished roles were those of a loving son, fiancé to Krystal Canselo, and father to his children, Dream Angel and True Love Coleman.
His sudden and violent death left a void in the lives of his family and friends.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation that soon cast a light on a web of jealousy and threats. In the days leading up to the shooting, Subrina Honore, a 32-year-old woman from New Orleans, had reportedly been making threats against Coleman on social media. This online animosity tragically escalated to real-world violence, cutting short a young father's life. The investigation moved swiftly, and authorities began to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter.
Within a short time, the investigation led to significant developments with the identification of three individuals connected to the crime. An initial suspect, 19-year-old Jahbrell Price, was publicly identified as wanted in connection with the shooting. The search for Price was followed by the arrests of two other individuals. Subrina Honore and 31-year-old Arthur Thomas of Marrero were taken into custody and booked on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. The arrests brought a small measure of solace to a grieving family and a community seeking justice for a life taken too soon.
