In the fall of 2017, the community of Marrero, Louisiana, was shaken by the violent deaths of two young men. Among them was Brandon Davis, a 23-year-old African American male, who was fatally shot on October 23, 2017. His life was cut short alongside 27-year-old Derielle Bernard in what authorities would later describe as a drug-related robbery gone tragically wrong.
The incident unfolded in the 6100 block of Second Avenue, leaving a void in the lives of their families and friends.
The investigation into the double homicide moved swiftly, and before long, two teenage suspects were in custody. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of 17-year-old Sean Labaud and 18-year-old Terrke Johnson. In a significant break in the case, both teenagers confessed to their involvement in the murders. Labaud admitted to being the gunman, shooting both Davis and Bernard during the course of the robbery. Johnson confessed to his role as the lookout during the commission of the crime.
Following their confessions, the two teenagers faced serious charges for their roles in the deaths of Brandon Davis and Derielle Bernard. Terrke Johnson was booked on two counts of second-degree murder for acting as the lookout. Sean Labaud, the confessed shooter, faced a charge of first-degree murder, as well as a count of obstruction of justice. The arrests and subsequent charges brought a measure of clarity to the circumstances surrounding the untimely and violent end to the lives of the two young men.
