In the spring of 2014, the life of a promising young man, Otis Louis Hixon Jr., was tragically cut short on a street in Marrero, Louisiana. An African American male, the 19-year-old was a native of New Orleans and resided in Waggaman. Known as an avid basketball player who also dedicated his time to coaching youth at his church, his sudden death sent ripples of grief through his community.
On the night of April 1, 2014, just before 10 p.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through the 2100
block of Constance Drive. Multiple calls to 911 reported the shots, with some callers stating that a male was lying on the ground. When Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Hixon's body. He had been shot once in the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events of that fatal night. Crime scene technicians meticulously combed the area where Hixon was found, recovering a number of spent shell casings of different calibers. This discovery suggested the presence of multiple firearms, though it did not immediately clarify the number of individuals involved in the altercation.
