In the late morning of Sunday, February 23, 2025, police responded to a call at a residence in the 5300 block of Brookhollow Drive in Jackson, Mississippi. Inside the home, they found 33-year-old Damion Reed, a male, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into his death quickly focused on his 30-year-old wife, Rashaan Wallace.
She was arrested and subsequently charged with murder in connection with her husband's death.
The incident that led to the fatal shooting reportedly began over a social media friend request. Investigators stated that an argument erupted between the couple after Reed became upset about a friend request Wallace had made. According to law enforcement, Wallace claimed that Reed approached her during the confrontation, leading her to fire a warning shot. When he continued to come toward her, she fired again, this time fatally wounding him. It was also reported that a child was present in the home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.
Following the shooting, Wallace, who is a licensed practical nurse, reportedly performed CPR on her husband and called 911. Despite her efforts, Reed succumbed to his injuries. Wallace has maintained that she acted in self-defense. She was taken into custody and booked at the Hinds County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $50,000 as the investigation into the death of Damion Reed continues.
