In the summer of 2025, a simple act of helping a friend turned fatal for 30-year-old LaJarvis Ruffin in Jackson, Mississippi. On the evening of Thursday, June 19, Ruffin was at the Park Springs Apartments on Shaw Road, changing the locks on the apartment door of the mother of his child. She had expressed concerns for her safety, and Ruffin was there to provide a helping hand and a sense of security. Tragically, as he worked, he was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
