On a June evening in 2022, Kenneth Weathers, a 61-year-old man, was at a convenience store on Robinson Road in Jackson, Mississippi, when his life was tragically cut short. On June 16th, a man shot Weathers outside the store. For nearly two weeks, he fought for his life at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
His death marked the 71st homicide in the city that year.
In the wake of the shooting, the Jackson Police Department released surveillance photos of a person of interest, seeking the public's help in identifying the individual responsible for this senseless act of violence. This led to a significant development in the case when, on July 8, 2022, the U.S. Marshal Service apprehended a suspect, identified as Kenterrious Williams.
However, the path to justice for Kenneth Weathers and his family appears to have taken a difficult turn. Despite the initial arrest, the case has since grown cold. In January 2025, nearly two years after Weathers's death, the Jackson Police Department once again reached out to the community for assistance in solving the homicide. This renewed call for information suggests that the initial arrest did not lead to a conviction and that the investigation remains open.
