In the early morning hours of Monday, March 31, 2025, a violent incident unfolded in the Greater Ville neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, resulting in the death of 60-year-old Jerry Johnson. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of North Newstead Avenue at approximately 1:35 a.m. after receiving a call reporting a 'person down' in the area.
Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered Johnson lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a critical gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency medical personnel quickly attended to the victim and transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical staff, Johnson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the medical facility. He was a resident of the 4300 block of Ashland Avenue and was remembered by his family as an outspoken and fun-loving individual who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation into the shooting, canvassing the area for evidence and potential witnesses. As of early April 2025, authorities had not identified any suspects in connection with the murder, and the motive for the attack remained unclear.
