In the early morning hours of April 14, 2025, a violent incident unfolded in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri, drawing law enforcement to the intersection of Independence Avenue and Lawndale Avenue. Just after 3:30 a.m., East Patrol officers were dispatched to the area following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered an unresponsive individual lying on the sidewalk, suffering from apparent gunshot trauma.
The victim was identified as Terry Jones, a 38-year-old Black male who was originally from St. Louis. Despite the immediate response of emergency medical services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation conducted by the Kansas City Police Department indicated that the shooting was likely a drive-by incident. Detectives determined that a vehicle had been traveling through the area when shots were fired, ultimately striking Jones.
