On New Year's Day in 2025, a quiet evening in Northfield Township, Michigan, was shattered by a violent home invasion that resulted in the deaths of 48-year-old Jennifer Lyn Bernhard and her 74-year-old father, Stevie Ray Smith. Jennifer's husband, Jeffrey Alan Bernhard, was also shot but survived his injuries. The attack, which took place at the Bernhard's residence on Nollar Bend Road, stemmed from a child custody dispute.
