On the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025, the life of 37-year-old Roy Anthony Leonard, an African American male, was cut short in Flint, Michigan. At approximately 7:33 p.m., Flint police officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Mason Street and 7th Avenue, near Hurley Hospital, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. Inside the car was Roy Anthony Leonard, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Leonard's death is being handled as a homicide by the Flint Police Department. As of now, authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and have provided contact information for Detective Donny Scott and Crime Stoppers, where tips can be submitted anonymously.
This tragedy is compounded by the fact that Leonard's family has experienced profound loss due to gun violence in the past. His mother, Lillian Fordham, had previously lost another son, 29-year-old Ricko Fordham, who was shot and killed in his vehicle on July 3, 2020. The family has also lost a niece and the mother of Leonard's nephew to gun violence in 2018. Leonard's death leaves his young child without a father. Funeral services for Roy Anthony Leonard were held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Serenity Funeral Chapel, and he was laid to rest at Gracelawn Cemetery in Flint.
