On a festive Fat Tuesday in Mamou, Louisiana, the joyous sounds of a Mardi Gras concert were tragically silenced by gunfire, leaving two teenagers dead and a community in mourning. One of the victims was Alaya Christian, a 17-year-old female who was a beloved student at Lafayette Renaissance Charter High School. The shooting occurred on March 4, 2025, during an outdoor performance by zydeco musician Chris Ardoin.
