Shayla James, a 19-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on October 19, 2021, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Shayla was a student at Southern University and was found shot to death inside her apartment at The Oliver complex on Burbank Drive. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that the shooting was ruled a homicide.
