Jonathan Benjamin Guiliani was an 18-year-old Hispanic/Latino male known for his impressive athleticism and love for the outdoors. A senior at Glen Burnie High School, he was also enrolled in an evening program to work toward his graduation. Affectionately called Jonny, he enjoyed playing football, riding his bike, and spending time at the gym. He was a devoted attendee of Arundel Christian Church and cherished time with his friends, family, and his cat, Oliver.
According to his father, Jonathan was planning to join the military before deciding between college or learning a trade.
In the early morning of Sunday, May 4, 2025, Jonathan’s life was cut short. Around 5:00 a.m., he and another person were walking along the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail in Glen Burnie when several masked suspects emerged from a white sedan. The suspects, armed with handguns equipped with laser lights, announced a robbery. A struggle ensued between Jonathan and one of the suspects over a handgun, which then discharged, striking Jonathan. As the other victim ran, the suspects fired toward him, but he escaped unharmed.
Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of Aquahart Road, where they found Jonathan suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene. Homicide detectives took over the investigation, recovering 17 9mm shell casings and a laser light attachment. The investigation revealed that the incident was a robbery and a crime of opportunity.
Through investigative means, including surveillance video, cellphone data, and DNA evidence, detectives identified a suspect. On July 22, 2025, police arrested 17-year-old Mactouko Junior Ryan of Elkridge. He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and numerous other counts. Investigators continued to pursue leads, believing others were involved in the crime.
The case concluded with guilty pleas from the individuals responsible for Jonathan’s death. Mactouko Junior Ryan pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder and was sentenced to life in prison with all but 25 years suspended. A second man, Mekhi Andrew Duncan of Baltimore, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder in July 2026 and was later sentenced to life with all but 35 years suspended. A third person involved in the robbery was adjudicated as a juvenile. The sentences for Ryan and Duncan were announced in September 2026.
