On the night of October 21, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Glen Burnie, Maryland neighborhood, leaving a young man dead in the street. Gene Fayga Martin, a 26-year-old male, was discovered by Anne Arundel County Police officers lying in the roadway on Beach Road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and lifesaving efforts of the authorities who arrived around 9:55 p.m., Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

investigators believed the shooting was not a random act of violence, but a targeted attack. The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit took the lead on the case, collecting evidence and seeking information from the public. For a time, the investigation continued without any named suspects or arrests, leaving the motive behind the violent encounter a mystery. The case remained open as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to Martin's death.
Years after the initial incident, a significant breakthrough occurred in the investigation. In May 2024, police charged Andy Daniel Aguilar-Amaya, then 21 years old, in connection with Martin's death. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed the tragic circumstances of the killing. Prosecutors detailed that Martin was shot and killed during a robbery that transpired during a drug transaction. In November 2025, a jury in the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court found Aguilar-Amaya guilty of first-degree felony murder and robbery.
